About me

I live in the West Country of England and my interests, which are reflected in my writing work, include science, history, music and spiritual journeys.
In terms of music I'm fond of early jazz: I'm particularly fascinated by the era when ragtime fused with other ingredients (blues, folk and military band music) to create the musical fireworks known as jazz. My instrument is the piano and I play a left-hand style of jazz that would have made me a popular entertainer in a barrel-house around the year 1917!
Some of my writing is quite dark. I have an affinity for shades and spirits, and sometimes they gather around me like Autumn evening shadows - whispering and chittering and bickering with each other. Occasionally, I'll pick up bits of their lives - like an antenna picking up fragments of a long-gone radio show - and I'll put them in my work. That might seem odd for a scientist - but if science has taught me one thing, it's that science is usually out of its depth in the matter of human consciousness. The world is what it is, and we need to know at least something of the dark in order to perceive the light.
Thanks for stopping by, and I hope you enjoy what you find....
